William E. Bollinger

William E. Bollinger Spring Grove William E. Bollinger, 91, of Spring Grove, died Thursday October 29, 2015 at his home. He was the husband of Mildred B. (Flemmens) Bollinger with whom he observed a 69th wedding anniversary this past March 3rd. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday November 7, 2015 at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, 3444 Sticks Road, (Route 216), Glen Rock with his pastor the Rev. Paula Murray, officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob's “Stone” Church Cemetery, Glenville with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. Mr. Bollinger was born of March 15, 1924 in Jefferson Borough and was a son of the late John H. and Cora E. (Trout) Bollinger. He attended Jefferson Grammar School and Codorus Township High School, graduating in 1943. He was drafted shortly after graduation and proudly served his county in the US Navy during WW II as a Fire Controlman 3rd Class. He served on the heavy cruiser USS Tuscaloosa and participated in the invasion of Normandy in 1944 and served in the Philippine’s, Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the Pacific Theater. Following his service in the Navy he was employed by the former Goodling’s Furniture and Funeral Home in Seven Valleys and attended Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia. He served two years apprenticeship to receive his Funeral Director License in June of 1954. He eventually worked part time with the former Sauter Funeral Home in Spring Grove. William was also employed at the P.H. Glatfelter Paper Company for 31 years as a senior laboratory Technician and retired in 1988. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson and later St. Jacob’s (Stone) Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council and was Treasurer of the Church for over 22 years. He also was a Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for Troop 122 in Jefferson where three of his sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award and was active Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow. He also was a member of the Pvt. Allen J. Beck, Jr. VFW Post #5265, Spring Grove. Besides his wife he leaves six sons, James Bollinger and wife Marilyn of Spring Grove, Wayne Bollinger and wife Joyce of Calabash, NC, Jeffery Bollinger and wife Judy of Stoverstown, Marlin Bollinger and wife Lynda of York, Thomas Bollinger and wife Sherie of Phoenixville, PA, and Timothy Bollinger of Chandler, AZ; six grandsons and six granddaughters, nine great grandchildren and three sisters, Edna Livingston and Esther Baker both of East Berlin and Anna Paules of Houston TX. He was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew J. Bollinger, In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA/Hospice of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 North Madison Street, Hanover, PA. 17331.
