Walter L. Matthews

On Sunday, April 4, 2021, Walter L. "Bub" Matthews, 82, passed away peacefully with family by his side. He was the husband of the late Marian M. (Sipe) Matthews for 50 years. Bub was born on September 25, 1938 in Codorus Township to the late Walter E. and Elsie Mae (Myers) Matthews. He attended Susquehannock High School, where he graduated in 1956. Bub served his country proudly in the US Army before working for Precision Custom Components Corporation (P.C.C.) in York for 31 years before retiring in 2001. Bub was affectionately known for his meticulous passion for lawn care, and as the 'Man Who Waves on Tolna Road'. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Mae Matthews-Salvo and husband, Frank, of York; two granddaughters, Irene Zerva and Renee Pasqua Salvo; one sister, Shirley Ann Baer of New Freedom; four nieces, Norma Jean "Jeannie" Mahone, Pamela Jo Mitzel, Denise Baer, and Dianna Miller; and two nephews, Timothy Baer and Cameron Matthews. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Norman and Carroll Matthews; and one nephew, Todd Baer. Following cremation, a public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 1:30pm until a memorial service begins at 2:00pm at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., in Glen Rock. Rev. Brian Biery will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are recommended to Christ Lutheran Church, 105 S. Main St., Shrewsbury, PA 17361.
