Virgil J. Bowers

Virgil J. Bowers, 91 of York, died Monday July 16, 2018 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Theresa S. (Kirby) Roberts Bowers with whom he celebrated a 30th Wedding Anniversary this past December and was the husband of the late Lenora M. (Koller) Bowers and Thelma Redding Bowers. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday July 21, 2018 at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, with Rev. John L. Trout, Pastor Emeritus of Trinity UCC Church officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Stewartstown with Flag Folding and Taps by the York County Veteran Honor Guard. Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 PM Friday and from 9 to 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Virgil was born in Stewartstown on April 28, 1927 and was a son of the late J. Henry and Ethel V. (Jones) Bowers. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and retired in 1996 as a Tool and Die Designer with Stewart Connector Inc. in Glen Rock and prior to that had worked at Berg/DuPont Electronics in Lewisberry. After his retirement he worked part-time for Sentinel Connector Systems Inc, West York. He was a 57 years volunteer with both the York New Salem Community Fire Company, where he served as Chief for several years and was a life member of the Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Company, where he served as an Engineer for over 34 years. He was also a member of the Stewartstown American Legion Post #455 and the Hanover Moose Lodge #227. Besides his wife he leaves his children, Bruce V. Bowers (Wendy) of Dover, Linda G. Ropp (Jeffrey) of York, Steve N. Bowers (Linda) of Glen Rock, Celeste R. Hinnenkamp (Steve) of York, Robert G. Roberts, Culver City, CA and Rod S. Roberts (Laura) of Fountain Valley, CA; 17 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Richard H. Bowers.
