On Monday, January 13th, 2025, Violet Arlene (Shaffer) Farmer, 79, met Jesus peacefully while surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of Ervin H. Farmer for over 61 years. Violet was born on May 31, 1945 in Freeland, MD, to the late Larnid and Romaine A. (Taylor) Shaffer. She graduated from Susquehannock High School in 1963. She worked as a secretary for Friendship Elementary and then Crescent Industries, in New Freedom, where she retired after 25 years of service. Violet was a devoted member of Shrewsbury Assembly of God, where she was a Sunday School teacher and played the piano and organ for over 50 years. In her spare time she enjoyed watching the Orioles and spending time with her grandchildren.
Violet is survived by her husband, Ervin; five children, Chad Farmer, Sr. and his wife Holly, Shane Farmer and his wife Ellen, Erin Malone and her husband Russ, Nathan Farmer and his wife Joann, and Travis Farmer and his wife Tara; one sister, Joann Striewig; 19 grandchildren, Courtney, Bubba, Carly, Cassidy, Faith, Seth, Gabby, Stasia, Jordyn, Damian, Taylor, Dallas, Dylan, Paige, Noah, Ryan, Ryleigh, Tori and Addison; and 9 great-grandchildren, Lennox, Layla, Lili, Greyson, Emerson, Carson, Grace, Camden and Weston.
Public viewing will be held on Saturday, January 18th, from 10:00 am until a funeral service begins at 12:00 pm at Shrewsbury Assembly of God, 234 N. Main St., Shrewsbury, PA 17361. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. An online guestbook is available at www.geiple.com.
