Thomas W. Diven Glenville Thomas W. Diven, 79 of Glenville, died Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at his home. He was a beloved husband, father, Pop Pop, sibling and friend. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Sarah Anne (Biernat) Diven; his son, Scott Diven and his wife Erin Diven; his grandchildren Luke and Lila Diven; his brothers and sisters: Fred and Mitzi Diven, Kevin and Debbe Tanner, Tom and Darla Boocks, William and Sue Diven, Larry and Sharon Diven, and Susan Diven; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Bonnie. Born in Columbia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Diven was the eldest child of Fred O. and Evelyn J. (Helmon) Diven. Mr. Diven enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954 and served until 1965. He worked in the naval communications and intelligence research divisions during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Turkey, Morocco, Japan and Germany during his years of service. After serving with the U.S. Navy, Mr. Diven continued his education, explored several passions and worked in several different fields. Mr. Diven worked as a salesman for several companies in Maryland and Pennsylvania and then became a driver. Mr. Diven retired from Helena Chemical Company in Shrewsbury. His favorite quip was that a salesman never died, just merely went out of commission. Mr. Diven had a passion for working at his family farm in Shade Gap, Pennsylvania where he spent many weekends with his family. Mr. Diven was a member of the Hanover Elks Lodge #763, the American Legion Post 403, Glen Rock, and a past president of the Baltimore Chemical Association. Following cremation, a visitation and memorial service will be held at Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glenn Rock on Saturday October 14, 2017. Visitation will be held from noon to 1:00 P.M. with a Service to follow at 1:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Decan Fred Horn. Burial will follow the service at the Jefferson Cemetery with military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his honor to the Four Diamonds Fund. Condolences may be shared at geiple.com
