Sterling R. Miller New Oxford Sterling R. Miller, 88, of the Brethren Home Community, died January 29, 2015 at the home. He was the husband of the late Hattie M. (Landis) Miller. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday January 31, 2015 at St. Jacob’s Stone Church, 5152 Stone Church Road, Glenville with Pastor Melissa Eicholtz officiating. Burial will follow the service in the St. Jacob’s Stone Church Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. There will be no viewing. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Miller was born on October 19, 1926 in Manheim Township, a son of the late C. Frank and Amy S. (Hamme) Miller. Sterling served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Fireman First Class. He was a builder in the Hampstead, MD area for many years. He also was self employed as Sterling Miller Contractor from 1976 to 1988 when he retired. Prior to that, he worked for his brother, Henry Miller’s construction business from 1954 to 1976. He was a member of St. Jacob’s (Stone) United Church of Christ, the AARP Chapter #669, Hanover, American Legion Post #14, Hanover, and the VFW Post #2056, Hanover. Mr. Miller leaves three daughters, Casandra R. Walback and her husband Charles “Alan” of Fort Pierce, FL, Jane E. Isaac and her husband Michael of Glenville, and Beatrice J. Nicklow and her husband Will of York, three step-children, LaVerne W. Ludwig and his wife Linda of Seven Valleys, Thelma R. Stump and her husband Ray of Newville, and Brenda M. Winemiller and her husband Dean of Glen Rock, 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and two sisters, Adalene M. Blymire of Deland , FL, and Faye I. Zinn of New Oxford. He is preceded in death by a son Samuel B. Miller, five brothers, Henry W. Miller, Stanley W. Miller, Merton E. Miller, Earl L. Miller, and Clyde L. Miller, and three sisters Mary Weller, Creeda M. Wagner, and Violet Wagner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jacob’s (Stone) United Church of Christ, 5152 Stone Church Road, Glenville, PA. 17329.
