Stanley L. “Stan” Godfrey, 88, of York, died Sunday March 25, 2018 at the Dallastown Nursing Center. He was the husband of Delores V. “Dorrie” (Stremmel) Godfrey. The couple had celebrated a 66th wedding anniversary on June 10, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Codorus Church of the Brethren, 1129 Dunkard Valley Road, Dallastown, (Route 214, 1 mile east of Loganville) with Pastor Rick Fischl and Pastor Duane Bahn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 8:30 to 10:45 am Friday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock Mr. Godfrey was born on February 1, 1930 in Springfield Township and was a son of the late Daniel E. and Lizzie M. (Hartman) Godfrey. Stan attended Springfield Consolidated School #1 and retired in 2010, after 50 years as a co-owner and partner of Godfrey Bros. Meats in Loganville. He is a member of Codorus Church of the Brethren, where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years, directed and sang in the church choir for many years. He also was a member of Codorus Men’s Quartet, the Jacobus Community Choir and several other local choirs. He also was a member of Rock Oak Hunting Camp, Centre County for 64 years. Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Carolyn G. Altizer (Jim) of Salem VA, Jane M. Ilyes (Charles) of Lebanon PA, Beth E. Striebig (Doug) of Dallastown and a son Stanley L. Godfrey Jr. (Nancy) of New Paris IN; 11 Grandchildren, Three Step Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren with three more on the way; two brothers, Mahlon M. Godfrey (Mary Jane) of York and Merrin J. Godfrey (Winona) of McPherson Kansas. He was predeceased by a brother Marlin W. Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Codorus Church of the Brethren, 1129 Dunkard Valley Road, Dallastown, PA 17313. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the Staff at Dallastown Nursing Center for the excellent care shown to Stan and the family during his time at the home.
