Sonya Lynn Walker

Sonya L. (Thompson) Walker, 60, of York, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023. She was the loving wife of John W. Walker, to whom she was married to for 7 years. Sonya was born on May 31, 1963, in York, to Lola (Conley) Thompson and the late David P. Thompson. She was a 1981 graduate of Susquehannock High School. Sonya was a Ware Specialist at Goodwill, in Shrewsbury. She was an energetic and hard working person, always taking pride in her work.

A devout Christian, she was a member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in Glen Rock. Sonya's faith in God was her strength and this was evident as she spread God's word. Sonya was an accomplished author as well, writing a poetry book titled, The Thin Line Between Love and Hate and co-writing Friendship Full Circle. She also wrote the children's book, The Peanut Butter Jelly Gang and Grandpa's Gift. In her spare time, Sonya enjoyed hiking and camping. Some of her greatest memories were made on trips to the Grand Canyon, Maine and the Poconos. Sonya's hobbies included decorating, homemaking, and gardening. Her love and devotion to her family and friends will be remembered fondly; she found great joy in spending time with them, cherishing every moment together.

In addition to her husband and mother, Sonya is survived by four children, Amanda Hemelgarn and husband Brandon, Adam Garver, Cody Garver and wife Brittnee, and Tyler Garver; one brother, David J. Thompson and wife Kristen; six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Luke, Alexis and Eli Garver, and Aubrey and Colton Hemelgarn; and her niece and nephews, Abby, Noah and Ryan Thompson, and Johnny Walker.

Following cremation, a public visitation will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 2-3 pm, at St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, located at 3444 Sticks Road, Glen Rock, prior to a Celebration of Life service beginning at 3 pm.
