Shirley Ann Markle

On July 15, 2022, Shirley Ann (Riley) Markle, 86, went to be with our Lord and Savior and was reunited with her husband, Jay H. Markle, who passed away in 2009. They were married for 53 years before his passing. Shirley was born on September 5, 1935 in North Codorus Township to the late Henry W. and M. Marcella (Zeigler) Riley.
She was a member of St. Jacob's UCC in York New Salem, where she was involved in the church choir, and teaching Sunday School and has been attending Salem Christian Church, Jacobus. She also worked at the Central Market for Marcio's Deli and volunteered at the York Hospital for 25 years. Shirley enjoyed baysitting, going camping with her family, and playing cards.
Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Lorrie Bechtel and husband Mahlon, Kathy Landis and husband Doug, and Deneen Harbold and husband Scott; two sisters, Darlene
Wetzel and husband Dick, and Karla Reed; four grandchildren, Bradley Landis and wife Sadie, Brent Landis and wife Megan, Matthew Harbold and wife Ellen, and Megan Mellinger and husband Abe; and five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Addy, Jayson, Bristol and Reagan. She was preceded in death by her brother Ray A. Riley.
Public viewing will be held on Sunday, July 24 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, PA, and again on Monday, July 25 from 10:00am until a funeral service begins at 11:00am at St. Jacob's UCC, 100 E. George St., York New Salem, PA 17371. Interment will follow in the church cemetery across the street. Pastors Kevin Becker and Susan D'heedene will officiate.
