Sharon Dee Markel

On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Sharon Dee (Stahl) Markel, 77, of Dover, formerly of Glen Rock, passed away at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York. She was the devoted wife of Thomas L. Markel for 47 years, whom she married on December 17, 1976.

Sharon was born on July 20, 1946, in York, to the late Claude and Mary (Lehr) Stahl. She graduated from York High School in 1964, then worked for AMP / Tyco, Inc. for over 20 years before retiring. She was a member of the Shiloh American Legion Post #791 and the Glen Rock American Legion, Post #403. In her free time, she found pleasure in getting lost in a good book on her Kindle, painting intricate crafts, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Thom; one son, Drew Altland and wife Susan (Scottie); one step-daughter, Brady Miller and husband Brad; and two grandchildren, Abbigail and Trey Altland. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Nelson and Henry Stahl.

Sharon had a special gift of making everyone feel welcomed and at ease in her presence, whether it was through a warm smile, a listening ear, or a comforting hug. Spending time with family and friends was a source of happiness for her. With them, she built a lifetime of laughter and love-filled memories.

Following cremation, a public gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 14 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, PA 17327. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are recommended to the American Lung Association, National Direct Response Headquarters, PO Box 756, Osceola WI 54020-0756.
