Ruth A. (Hershey) Nace, 103, passed from this life into the eternal care of her Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Spirit Trust Lutheran Skilled Nursing Center. Ruth was born on September 5, 1918 to the late Arthur Lee Hershey, Sr. and Rebecca M. (Shuppert) Hershey. Ruth was the devoted wife of the late Ralph C. Nace. They were married on November 13, 1939, and enjoyed 67 years together before his passing.
Ruth received her teaching certificate from Millersville Teachers College (now Millersville University). She then worked for the Southern York County School District, first as a teacher in multiple one room schools including White Oak, Kings, and Gerbericks. She completed her 11 years of teaching at the New Freedom Borough school in 1948, then left teaching to work with her husband on their farm near Glen Rock. However, after 23 years of enjoying the farm life, she returned to the Southern School District to complete a total of 22 years of service in 1985 working as a cook at Susquehannock High School.
Ruth was a lifelong faithful member of New Hope (Fissel's) UCC near Glen Rock where she served as the church organist for many years starting in 1968. Later, during her 12 years stay at SpiriTrust Lutheran in Shrewsbury she occasionally volunteered to play the piano for the home's church services. In her community work she was the Judge of Elections for Codorus Township for a number of years. Ruth is survived by one brother, Arthur Lee Hershey, Jr. and was preceded in death by five sisters, Violet Thomas, Florence Lee, Clair Fair, Mary Wolfe, and Bertha Itzoe. Ruth is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, May 12, from 10AM until a Memorial Service begins at 11AM at New Hope (Fissel's) UCC, 3426 Fissel's Church Road, Glen Rock. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. Pastors David Stewart and Sterling Fritz will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are recommended to the church at PO Box 25, Glen Rock, PA 17327. Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. is assisting the family.
