On Monday, May 2, 2022, Robert P. Ruby, 91, of Glen Rock, passed away at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Dallastown. He was husband to the late Dorothy "Dot" (Yocum) Ruby. "Bob" was born on September 17, 1930 in New Freedom to the late Preston C. and Ruth V. (Black) Ruby. Bob graduated in 1948 from New Freedom High School, where he was also the class Vice President. After high school he proudly served in the US Army and was in the Korean War as a member of the 82nd Airborne. After his military career ended, he worked for American Insulator Corp., then AMP, Inc. Plastics Division, retiring in 1982 after 27 years of service. Bob also had worked for SPM, and New Concept Mfg. in Spry, where he was the shop foreman. In his spare time, he was an avid bike rider, golfer, hunter, fisherman and Ham Radio Operator. Bob was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Glen Rock, Austin L. Grove American Legion, Post #403, Bon Air Country Club, and was the Tax Collector for Southern York School District from 1974-1986. Bob is survived by three children, Greta L. Dise and husband Bob, Judy A. Carroll and husband Charlie, and Robert A. Ruby; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dot; parents; and one sister, Greta M. Miller.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 10am until a memorial service begins at 11am at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Glen Rock. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are recommended to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
