Robert F. Henry Glen Rock Robert F. “Bob” Henry, 80, passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior on Friday, May 1, 2015 at his home, surrounded by family. Born on August 7th, 1934 in York, he was the son of the late Allen F. Henry and Goldie Renoll. He married the love of his life, Ruth M. (Waltemyer) Henry on August 14th, 1955. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in August. In addition to his wife, Ruth, Bob is survived by their four children, Lois A. Roop and her husband Calvin of Lebanon, Wayne E. Henry of Windsor, Mark P. Henry of Glen Rock and Joyce I. Knisely and her husband, Steve, of Windsor, two sisters, Alene Mummert of Hanover and Fern Albright of Glen Rock, as well as 9 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild whom he affectionately referred to as his “pumpkin”. Bob is a veteran of the United States Army where he served two years overseas in France. Back home, he worked for 27 ½ years as a machine operator at Thonet Industries in York, prior to its closing. He also worked as a utility person with the Masonic Home in Timonium, MD before his retirement in March of 1997. Even after retirement, Bob continued to work part-time for 14 years with Brown’s Orchards in Loganville. Always remembered for his heart of service, Bob was truly passionate about the things he did on a volunteer basis. He was an active member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in Red Lion for nearly 60 years where he was a deacon and a member of the Cemetery Committee for many years. He was a member of Gideon’s International and served as a chaplain of the local York Southeast Camp. Bob volunteered at the Brethren Disaster Relief Auction for 27 years where he was part of the Heifer Committee. He also took numerous Disaster Relief trips over the years to help those devastated by natural disasters. Bob took pride and joy in his garden where he grew rows of beautiful flowers and harvested vegetables every summer. Bob will be remembered for his love of God and family, his servant’s heart, and his kind and loving spirit. His legacy of love and service to others is an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Bob’s life at a funeral service to be held on Tuesday, May 5th at 11:00 am at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, 10384 Winterstown Rd, Red Lion, with Pastors Jay McWilliams and Woodrow Harrison officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, Bob has asked that any memorial contributions be made to Gideon’s International.
