Dr. Robert C. Altland Glen Rock Dr. Robert C. Altland, 83, of Glen Rock, died Friday September 12, 2014 at the York Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Dona I. (Smith) Altland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Zion Shaffer’s United Lutheran Church, 4535 Shaffer Road, Seven Valleys, with the pastor Rev. Dr. Matthew Stillman, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Viewings will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Church. Dr. Altland was born in York, on July 4, 1931, a son of the late Clair F. Altland, Sr. and Ruth Blanche (Calaman) Altland. He graduated from William Penn High School in 1948 and Gettysburg College in 1952 where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and ROTC. He attended the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School for two years and graduated from Hahnemann Medical School in 1958 where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He served as an Air Force Captain from 1960-1962 as a Medical Doctor. Dr. Altland opened his own medical family practice in Glen Rock in 1962 and retired in 1998 after 36 years of dedicated care. He was a member of the Shrewsbury Masonic Lodge No. 423, the American Medical Association, and the Pony of the Americas Club. Dr. Altland received the Austin L. Grove Post 403 American Legion Good Citizenship Award in 2008. Dr. Altland loved showing horses, collecting antiques, and weeding his endless flowerbeds. He will be deeply missed by his three daughters, Beth Bailey and her husband Keith of Seven Valleys, Amy Miller and her husband Randy of Seven Valleys and Sally Mason and her husband Dean of York. He was also a caring grandfather to four grandchildren, Sarah Bailey, Adam Miller, Zachary Miller and Emma Mason and a great-grandfather to Talan Miller and baby on the way Autumn. He also is survived by a sister, Barbara E. Witter of York and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Altland of Seven Valleys.
