Robert "Bob" Bird

Robert (Bob) Bird, 84, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at

York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret; devoted father of Andrew

Bird and his wife Carol, Steven Bird and his wife Heidi, Georgina Mathews and her

husband Clay, Elizabeth Doyle and her husband Joe, and Jessica Byers; loving

grandad of Nathan Bird and his wife Katie, Isaac Bird and his wife Madison, Jonah

Bird and his fiance Abigail Lee, Maddie Bird and her husband Devin Holling, Patrick

Bird, Emma Bird, Eleanor Bird, Max Bird, Jamie Bird, Sarah Byers, Aida Byers, Lily

Byers, Laura Byers, Aaron Doyle, and Isla Doyle; and inspiring great-grandad of

Benny Bird, Martin Bird, Felix Bird, and Kendrick Robertson. Bob was preceded in

death by his parents Charles Bird and Mary Elizabeth Monaghan, his brothers

Richard Bird and Charles Bird, his sisters Alice Bird and Maryann Meiners, and his

granddaughter Molly Bird. He is survived by his brother David Bird and his wife

Mary, and his sister Loretta Metzger. Bob served as a radio man in the Navy

between 1958 to 1962: "He served for four years, but never went to sea." Bob worked

for the AAI Corporation as an electronics technician for 20 years before he retired

in 2006. After his retirement, Bob spent his time working on puzzles, reading,

completing crossword puzzles, taking care of his yard, and watching British

mysteries and dramas. Bob was an avid DIYer. He believed in doing it himself. And of

course, he loved golf, playing 18 holes and watching the latest tournament. Bob

designed and built his gazebo where he could be found by family and friends. He

was known for his hospitality, was savvy at playing cards, and his Irish coffees.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic

Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349, at 10:00 AM, on Saturday,

February 15, until the funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Internment will immediately follow

the Mass in the adjoining cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to a luncheon

in Neumann Hall immediately following the internment. In lieu of flowers, please consider having

a Mass said for Bob.
