Rev. Carl E. Ehrhart

Rev. Carl E. Ehrhart Whiting, NJ Rev. Carl E. Ehrhart, 88, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on May 27, 2015 at his home in Whiting, NJ. He was the husband of Tamara Ehrhart and the widower of Patricia Meredith Ehrhart and Evelyn McGowan Ehrhart. Rev. Ehrhart was born in Glenville and was a son of the late Rev. Kenneth S. and Mary S. (Barbehenn) Ehrhart. He was a graduate of Codorus Township High School, Gettysburg College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg and attended the Princeton Theological Seminary. Rev. Ehrhart was a retired minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America having been ordained in 1952. Early on, he served as a Protestant Chaplain at various correctional institutions, and also at the New Jersey Veterans Home in Edison, NJ. After a pastorate at the former Our Savior Lutheran Church in York, he was the Director of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Counseling with Lutheran Social Services in New Jersey. In his retirement he served as Pastoral Assistant at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beachwood, NJ. In addition to his wife, Tamara, he is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Ehrhart, Norfolk, VA and Gretchen Thigpen, Santa Cruz, CA and her husband Douglas and children, Bethany Rose, Blake, and Carl Douglas and also step children, Marshall and Joanne McGowan and Tamara’s children, Julie and George, his brothers, Sidney Ehrhart, and wife Sally, and David Ehrhart, and wife Barbara. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dr. Kenneth Ehrhart and Rev. Richard Ehrhart. Private graveside services for his family will take place at St. Jacob’s Stone Church Cemetery, Glenville at the convenience of the family. Condolences may be shared at geiple.com
