Rebecca McCracken

February 22, 1926 — April 21, 2025

Dallastown - Rebecca Leona (Mundis) McCracken, 99, of Dallastown, passed away at York Hospital on Monday, April 21. She was the wife of the late William G. McCracken, Sr., sharing 42 years together before his death in 1986.

Born In York on February 22, 1926, Becky was the daughter of the late Martin L. Mundis Sr. and the late Beulah E. (Coxen) Mundis. She was employed in accounting and payroll departments at several York businesses including York Motor Express, York Corporation, S. Morgan Smith, Caterpillar and Allegheny Pepsi Cola. After retirement she volunteered at the York Tourist Bureau, York Hospital and the American Red Cross, and was an active member of the First Church of the Brethren of York serving in many positions.

At age 27, Becky contracted polio during an epidemic in 1952. She was one of two adult survivors in York County. Her determination to walk again and raise four children, and her tenacity and dedication to her family contributed to her long life.

Besides music and reading, Becky loved to watch golf - she followed Jim Furyk from the time he became a pro! She enjoyed Hallmark Christmas movies and anything chocolate. A trip to the Pizza Hut Buffet made her day. She liked country music - Alan Jackson was her favorite having seen him at the York Fair several times. Becky was a whiz at doing jigsaw puzzles and playing games - which she usually won. Mexican Train and Bingo were regulars. Becky was known for her paper-thin sand tarts, fudge and special Easter cake with a nest on top and a toothpick hidden inside for the lucky recipient who got to wash the dishes. Becky loved to travel on bus trips, and her favorite destination was the beach - a sand chair under the umbrella watching the waves and seagulls.

Becky is survived by her daughter Sheryl A. Leaman (Frank), sons Thomas B. McCracken (Jill) and David M. McCracken (Cathy), grandchildren Andrew Dierdorf (Jane), Marjorie Dierdorf, Abby Shanahan (Brandon), William McCracken III (Michelle), Shaun McCracken, Ryan McCracken (Carrie), Kevin McCracken (Renee), Erin Ferro (Tanner), Shannon Kendig (Brett) and Lindsey Duncan (James), and 17 great-grandchildren - William IV, Connor, Jaxon, Jaden, Mason, Reagan, Molly, Colin, Luke, Brynleigh, Sadie, Paxton, Parker, Luca, Kyleigh, Rori and Carter, her sister Winifred E. Fickes and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son William G. McCracken, Jr. and brothers Kenneth C. Mundis, Martin L. Mundis, Jr. and Robert K. Mundis.
