Philip Elvin Gladfelter, 85, of New Oxford, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024. He was born June 14, 1939 in Glenville, PA to the late Curtis E. and Micleta A. (Bortner) Gladfelter. He is survived by his son Robert S. Gladfelter and his wife Kimberly, grandchildren James C. and his wife Tiffany, Matthew J., Joshua D. Gladfelter, and two great-grandchildren, Lois and Claire. Philip was preceded in death by his wife Patricia A. (Erb) Gladfelter , siblings R. Laverne and Nadine E. Gladfelter. Phil attended the Krebs one room school, New Freedom Middle and graduated from Susquehannock High School in 1956. In 1961 he married Patricia Erb from Hanover. He went to work in York for Servomation which was originally Wolcott Catering. In 1978 he bought a newsstand business at 639 W. Market Street in York and named it Phil’S News, which he and his wife Pat operated until 2001. The newsstand had the number one sales of PA Lottery for single stores for many years. Phil sold the business and retired to help his son run Poplar Hollow Farm, a nursery and greenhouse business. He was a huge Phillies, Eagles and NASCAR fan. He loved horse racing!. He enjoyed playing poker at the McSherrystown Home Assn. where he was a life member, as well as the McSherrystown Moose. He loved new cars, purchasing more than 30 new Fords and Mercurys in his lifetime. Phil also loved music and made many trips to Wheeling, WV to see country music stars, the highlight of which was being sung to by Tammy Wynette, one of the biggest stars of the time. He also loved to travel. His favorite trip was to Disney World in Florida with the entire family in 1999. Phil loved his family, loved life and lived it to the fullest. A viewing will be held at Geiple- Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, PA 17327 on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 6 to 8 PM and on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 10 AM to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held. Burial to follow at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Phil’s name may be made to St. Jacob (Stone) Church, 5152 Stone Church Road, Glenville, PA 17329.
