On Tuesday, December 29, 2020, Paul W. "Bud" Shepperd, Jr., 95, of Quarryville, formerly of Glen Rock, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late R. Mardella (McCleary) Shepperd, who passed away on November 23, 2020. They had celebrated 73 years of marriage on August 31, 2020. Bud was born on April 12, 1925 in Glen Rock to the late A. Margaret (Gemmill) and Paul W. Shepperd, Sr. He graduated from Glen Rock High School, with the class of 1943. He worked for his father at Shepperd Sales and Service pumping gas and working in the garage in Centerville. He served his country in the US Army 580th Ambulance Corps during WWII across Europe, attached to armored battalions providing support most notably at Normandy, and later, in the liberation of a prison camp. After serving, he received his Associate's Degree in Industrial Engineering and worked for AMP, Inc., for more than 40 years, until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion, Austin Grove Post, in Glen Rock, and the American Society of Materials Engineers. Bud was a life member of the Glen Rock Carolers Association, having sung with the group for 80 years, including this past Christmas! He and his wife were avid supporters of the Glen Rock community, volunteering with many of the local organizations. He also sang with the Society for the Preservation of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America and with other church and local groups. He served as a leader and treasurer of Boy Scout troop 48 of Glen Rock for many years. Having attained the Order of the Arrow as a boyscout, himself, he assisted and/or hosted, the annual corn roasts, paper drives, camporees, snowball stands at the local carnivals and fairs, and other scouting activities and projects. Bud was an avid outdoors enthusiast, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, and boating. He loved road trips and spent many vacations traveling around the US and Canada with his family, hiking in the Michaux Forest, surf-fishing on the Virginia coast, and boating and fishing in the Chesapeake Bay. He is survived by two sisters, Linda Dunheimer (Greensburg, PA) and Julia Neuhaus (Gregory, MI), his two children, Paul W. "Skip" Shepperd, III and wife, Suhk Hing, of Newark, DE, and Denise A. "Dee" Shepperd and her companion, Mark Makowiecki, of Wilmington, DE and Christiana, PA; three grandsons, Paul W. Shepperd, IV, Patrick and Andrew Delaney; and a great-grandson, Jack Pryor Shepperd. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and eldest sister Margaret Diehl, of Chesapeake, VA. Following cremation, a graveside celebration of his life will be held at 1pm on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hanover Street, Glen Rock. Rev.
