Nelson William Tome

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, Nelson William Tome, 88, of Red Lion, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Joyce F. (Kline) Tome. In May of this year, they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Nelson was born on September 26, 1936 in Lancaster County to the late Austin and Dorothy (Brown) Tome. He was a supervisor for Autokraft Box, where he worked for 46 years before retiring. After retiring, Nelson enjoyed working for Sechrist Brothers Auctioneers for many years. He was a volunteer for the Airville Fire Company and New Bridgeville Fire Company. He also volunteered as an EMT for the Red Lion Ambulance Association and Brogue Ambulance Company for 39 years. In his free time, Nelson would mow grass for people and work on lawn mowers. He enjoyed going to the Red Lion Senior Center to play BINGO.

Nelson is survived by his wife, Joyce; three children, Glenn Tome and wife Pat, Glenda Bowman and husband Roger, and Nelson Tome, Jr. and wife Stephanie; six grandchildren, Allen Bowman and wife Erin, Delena Nelson and husband Jacob, Austin Tome and wife Bailey, Jacob Tome, Nicholas Tome and Abigail Tome; three great-grandchildren, David, Nathan and Evelyn; and four siblings, Edward Tome and wife Mary, Victor Tome and wife Barb, Geraldine Tome and companion Rick Flaharty, and Gertrude Tome. He is also survived by 'his boy' Sam, his pet cat.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Ellen Burns, Alvin Tome, Eugene Tome, Gerald Tome and George Tome.

Public viewing will be held on Saturday, November 23, from 10:00 am until a funeral service begins at 12:00 pm at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1674 Furnace Rd, Brogue, PA 17309. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.geiple.com.
