On Thursday, November 28, 2024, Michael David Shaffer, 71, of York, passed away surrounded by family at home. He was the devoted husband to Marcella "Marcy" (Ziemski) Shaffer for 47 years. Mike was born on September 19, 1953, in York, to the late Ervin and Adella (Roser) Shaffer. He graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1971 before receiving his Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State in 1973. He worked as an engineer and then owned and operated Shaffer Construction, LLC until he retired.
Mike was a member of the Pennsylvania Sunday School Association; the Church of the Open Door in Shiloh, where he was also a Sunday School Teacher, and sang on the Ensemble and Choir; he grew up in Shaffer's Church in Glen Rock, where he also became an elder and Superintendent; and he was a former volunteer for the Seven Valleys Volunteer Fire Department.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting; fishing; going to church and spreading the Word of Jesus; watching and playing baseball and softball; mini golfing; and being with family.
He is survived by his wife, Marcy; three children, Amanda "Mandy" Shaffer, Matthew Shaffer and wife Erin; and Mark Shaffer; one sister, Karen Brenneman and husband, Jeff; and three grandchildren, Jaydon, Jacob and Tyler Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Brenda Shaffer.
A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, December 13 from 1:00 pm until a Celebration of Life service begins at 2:00 pm at the Church of the Open Door in Shiloh, 8 Carlisle Ct., York, PA 17408. A luncheon will follow the service.
