Matthew (Matt) Fogleman of York, Pennsylvania, died on January 3, 2022, at York Hospital. He was born on December 20, 1956, in Harrisburg, PA and graduated from Cedar Cliff High School and Temple University. He married the love of his life, Beth, on June 20, 1981, and was blessed to spend 40 wonderful years with her. Together, they raised five children who survive him: Theodore of New Orleans, LA; Jonathan of Lancaster, PA; Kathryn of Washington DC; Thurman (Erica) of Villa Park, IL; and Ethan of York, PA. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Ethel (Leister) Fogleman of Camp Hill, PA, and his beloved younger sister Jennifer (Fogleman) Warner, also of Camp Hill, PA. Perhaps because of his gentle soul, Matt was jokingly referred to as somewhat of a cat whisperer. His children feel they would be remiss not to mention his four grand-kitties who will miss visiting him and curling up on his lap for a joint afternoon snooze. Matt was raised to be a man of faith, having grown up attending Lakeside Lutheran Church in Harrisburg. For him, church was not only a place of worship but a place of community–one where fun and recreation featured prominently. As it frequently goes, sometimes the fun went slightly too far. His children are particularly fond of rehashing the story of the time he and the other children of the members of Lakeside’s chancel choir were playing while their parents rehearsed, and Matt ended up running into and breaking the baptismal font. With his good-natured sense of humor, he always took the ribbing well. It was fitting that he found work where faith and recreation intersected–at Camp Nawakwa of the Lutheran Camping Corporation. It was there, in the summer of 1979, that he met his wife Beth. Later that summer, he invited her to see him in action with his other life passion–playing his guitar at a local restaurant. It was his work at camp, his love of music and music education, and his devotion to his family that brought him the most joy in life. Matt brought his love of music to his profession as an adjunct professor of music at York College. He continued to spend his summers working for the Lutheran Camping Corporation at Camp Nawakwa, Camp Kirchenwald, and the Wittel Farm. In the community, Matt had served on the board of the York Junior Youth Symphony Orchestra. He was frequently found supporting his kids in their many endeavors and was pleased to see them all discover their own love for music. He never griped about the intensive coordinating efforts it took to shuttle five kids to music lessons, ensembles, scholastic, and athletic events. When he wasn’t busy taking care of everything first-rate fathers do, he could often be found listening to “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” and “A Prairie Home Companion'' on Sundays after church. Matt will be remembered by the St. Matthew community for his volunteer work teaching adult Sunday School, his service on the sound room crew, and his membership on the chancel and bell choirs.
