Mary L. Stermer

Mary L. Stermer Columbia Mary L. (Dean) Stermer, 91, of St. Anne's Retirement Community, and formerly of Glen Rock, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Curtis E. Stermer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Chapel at St Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Avenue, Columbia, with Rev. Fr. Ernie Krantz, C.PP.S, officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Anne’s. Burial in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Glen Rock will be private. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Stermer was born on August 25, 1922 in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of the late Oliver and Mildred (Hickey) Dean. She was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Women's Army Corps (WAAC), Medical Corps. It was during her time of serving that she met her late husband. She had worked as a transport person at York Hospital for several years and prior to that had been employed as an Inspector at AMP inc, for many years. She was a member of the Austin L. Grove American Legion Post #403 in Glen Rock and had lived in Glen Rock prior to moving to St. Anne's in 2007. She leaves four daughters, Mary Ann Tilrico and her husband Mick of Tampa Fla., Marjorie J. Anderson and her husband Rick of York, Donna D. Becker and her husband Jim of of Zebulon, N.C., and Joan E. Wood and her husband Steve of Glen Rock;12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and her faithful dog, Lady, who was by her side when she passed away. She was predeceased by two sons, Thomas D. Stermer and Timothy D. Stermer and a brother Donald Dean. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512-1715.
