On Saturday, December 17, 2022 Mary Jane Wagner (Ilyes) Godfrey, 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior. She was the loving wife of Mahlon Godfrey for 67 years. She was born in Leader Heights on August 2, 1934 to the late Lester and Mary Susan (Wagner) Ilyes.
Mary Jane is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen Lehman and husband David, Karen Thompson and husband Randy, and Kaye Myers and husband Linc; five grandchildren, Nicholas Thompson, Leah Lowry, Brian Lehman, Hannah Parmer and Caleb Myers. She has 7 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way in January! She is also survived by one brother, James Ilyes. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and Robert Ilyes; and three sisters, Margaret Krape, Kathryn Miller and Ruth Bailey.
Mary Jane was a member of the Codorus Church of the Brethren where she was a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, active in the music department singing in the choir and leading youth and childrens' choirs. She also sang in the Jacobus Chorus and was a Gideon since 1994. Mary Jane worked along side her husband at their family business, Godfrey Brothers Meats. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family, doing puzzles, playing games with her grandchildren, and serving at her church.
Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28 starting at 9:30am with a funeral service begining at 11:00am at Codorus Church of the Brethren, 1129 Dunkard Valley Road, Dallastown, PA 17313. Pastors Eric Ritenour and Ben Godfrey will officiate. Please join us as we celebrate her life. A time of fellowship will follow the service.
