Margaret L. Shaub Shrewsbury Margaret L. (McGinnis) Shaub, 81, after an 11 year battle with Parkinson Disease, passed away with her husband and daughter at her side, March 28, 2014. She was the wife of Robert H. Shaub with who she celebrated a 60th Wedding Anniversary, August 1, 2013. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 TO 8:00 PM Sunday, April 6, 2014 and from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday April 7th at St. Paul’s UCC Church, 161 S. Main Street, Shrewsbury. A memorial service will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at the church with her pastor Rev. Dr. Martha H. Boyer officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Margaret was the daughter of the late John T. and Beulah (Wallace) McGinnis, of White Hall, Maryland. Besides her husband, she also is survived by, sons, Kevin, Keith and his wife Peggy, daughter Megan, a brother John W. McGinnis, a sister-in-law Catherine McGinnis, two grandsons, Daniel and Christopher, a step-grandson Benjamin, great grandson, Nathan Shaub, and by cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceding her in death, were a brother David and a Step Brother, Tydings Owen McGinnis. She attended Baltimore County 7th District Elementary School, and was a graduate of Sparks High School in 1951, the Baltimore Business College and Sherwood School of Music. Graduating from Business school, she worked as Secretary for the Managers of the Bendix Corporation, Ford Automobile Radio Division, until the birth of her first child. She also was co-owner of Farmer’s Daughter Gift and Garden Center, Railroad. She taught Organ for 17 years and played with the York Organ Club in Concerts. In later years, she began her second career as a secretary, working at Rest Haven-York, and for Dr. David Willams, DDS in Stewartstown. She also worked for several years as a Secret Shopper, and as a demonstrator working for several agencies. She was known as the “Sample Lady” at Giant, Wal-Mart and other stores. She tried her best to continue her work but had to give it up because of her Parkinson Disease. Active in York County community, she was active in many of the events that happened in Railroad Borough, including the 100th and 125th Anniversaries of the borough and raised $40,000 in funds for the restoration of the historic Borough Hall. In 1980, she began the searched for some of the German POW’s that were brought to the POW camp in Stewartstown in 1944-45. This quest would take her all the way to records office in Berlin Germany. She then organized the return of five former POW’s and their families to visit this area. In 1999 she served on the Historical Documentation Commission for the 250th Anniversary of the founding of York County and one of her last community projects was securing a concrete bench, through Giant Foods, that was placed to the rear entrance of the York YMCA so people waiting for a ride would have a place to sit. She also was proud of her voting record, having never missed voting in a primary or general election for 55 years and received the York County Mother of the Year Award about 1970. She loved working with the late Harry McLaughlin and his Around Town Column in the York Dispatch. She was a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Shrewsbury, and many groups in the Shrewsbury area and of the Codorus Valley Area Historical Society. She loved 4-H and was a Community Leader in the York County 4-H program. She also did compassion care work for the Lutheran Home and volunteered at the Zimmerman House, Shrewsbury and worked privately for families, helping to take care of their sick love ones. Little time in life for hobbies, she enjoyed collecting pictures of York County School pupils, antique hats, nativities and attending public sales. After several falls she had to give it all up and enjoy her memories. Her request is that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s UCC Church, 161 S. Main Street, Shrewsbury,. PA 17361 or to the York County 4-H Clubs 112 Pleasant Acres Road, York, PA 17402 or to Lutheran Home Care & Hospice, Inc. 1651 A, Mt. Zion Road, York PA 17406.
