Mae V. Kearney Shrewsbury Mae Viola (Newcomer) Kearney, 94, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday night, June 21, 2015, in her home of the past 55 years. She was born February 1, 1921 in Codorus Township, a daughter of the late Amos W. and Flora (Depfer) Newcomer. She graduated from Codorus Township High School in 1939. Mae worked as a filing clerk, starting at the York Corporation during World War II and continuing with Borg-Warner, York, retiring after 39 years in 1984 and was a member of their 25 year club. She was a lifelong member of Fissel’s Church, becoming a charter member as it transitioned to New Hope United Church of Christ, Glen Rock. Mae married John E. Kearney in 1959 and was widowed when he died in 1992. Together they had spent many years gardening, growing vegetables, beautiful irises, and spoiling their cats. Kit Kat and Morrisene who shared their home. In later years, Mae provided a happy home for Sam, Samantha, and Other Cat. She is survived by her sister, Ruth L. Bricker of Shrewsbury; her brother Paul A. Newcomer of Bel Air, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews with their children and grandchildren, scattered across the country from California to New York. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mae was predeceased by six of her brothers: Edward, William, Victor, James, John, and Harvey Newcomer, as well as three siblings who died at infancy. Funeral Services will be held Monday June 29, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, with her Pastor Rev. Julian Hall officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Fissel’s Church Cemetery. There will be no viewing. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403 or to Animal Rescue, Inc. 2 Heritage Farm Drive, New Freedom, PA 17349 or to any Veteran’s Support Organization of your choice.
