Lovelle Rambo Lovell

July 17, 1932 — December 24, 2024

After long anticipation and waiting;

After a life well and long lived;

After many children, grandchildren and

great-grandchildren - blended and otherwise;

After the care of so many at Hanover Hall-

where she was well cared for with

concern and compassion;

Where she was touched by many but also

where she continued to touch others-

("Sweet & Feisty" and "Sweet Smile"

were words mentioned often...);

Where there were moments that she even

recaptured some of the joy she once

knew;

It was on Christmas Eve evening that she

flew with the Angels;

And with her arms raised high and

outstretched, she received her gift.

FINALLY HOME

_______________________________________________________________

Lovelle R. Lovell, 92 of Glenville PA went home for Christmas December 24, 2024. The daughter of Gunnar and Sara Rambo she was born July 17, 1932 in Chester, South Carolina. At two years her parents made the move north to Trappe PA. Lovelle rode on her mother’s lap in the Model T with a crate of chickens tied to the roof. After a very active childhood, she matriculated to Gettysburg College where she met a “very handsome man,” her first husband, James M. MacDonald. They lived on York Street in Gettysburg while Jim attended the Lutheran Seminary. Upon graduation, they embarked upon his first and only pastorate in Shennandoah PA where they had five children. As a pastor’s wife, many a destitute person received a toasted cheese sandwich from Lovelle at the parsonage kitchen at a time there was little for her own.

Departing from ministry, they moved to his family home in South Western York County near Lineboro MD. Lovelle tried her hand at teaching first grade before moving to working with intellectually challenged individuals with the LIU where she was both teacher and van driver. After several years it was time for change and her career took a completely different turn. She took an 8 – 5 job as a parts counter sales person with Wertz Garage in Lineboro, a position she held for many years. She then spent her remaining working years as a home help aid with VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove.

Soon after she began at Wertz Garage she married the love of her life, Roy G. Lovell, with whom she celebrated 51 years of marriage this past December. After the children were grown and gone, Lovelle deepened her spiritual journey with the members of Grace United Methodist Church (Grace Church in Hanover). Before she became home-bound, gave them the lesson of the sweet potato basket. She shared it with many others as well, the lesson learned one day going into church with a basket of sweet potatoes to share. Hearing that still small voice, to set the basket down before opening the door, she ignored it, and fell and was hurt. She would say if only I would have listened to that little voice.

In addition to her husband, Lovelle is survived by her 5 children: Regina Herman, Columbia PA; Timothy MacDonald (Dora), Rock Hill SC; Stephen L. MacDonald (Karla), Glen Rock PA; Christopher MacDonald (Karen), Gettysburg, PA; Cecilia Gilbert (Dan), Summerville, GA; Step children Mark Lovell (Sally), Poquosan VA, & Sally Lovell (Dick Slater), Port Townsend, WA. In addition to her children, Lovelle is survived by a sister, Nancee Ann Cleland, Freehold, NJ, sister-in-law, Pam Rambo, Winnsboro SC and their families, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; She was pre-deceased by her parents; a brother, Gunnar Rambo; brother-in-law, Bill Clelland; son-in-law, Ken Herman; grandson, Benjamin Bortner; granddaughter, Gwen Kelly and ex-husband, J. M. MacDonald.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove, Grace Church in Hanover or a charity of your choice. A private service of celebration of Lovelle’s life will be held at a later date at the convenience of family.
