On Friday, October 22, 2021, Lois J. (Steitz) Mintun, 87, passed away at her home in York. She was the wife of the late Charles R. Shive and the late Johnny E. Mintun. Lois was born on December 8, 1933, in Philadelphia to the late Walter J. and Marion (Walters) Steitz. She graduated from Olney High School in Philadelphia, then attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia to pursue voice training. During this time, she had the opportunity to perform her skills at Carnegie Hall. She decided to cut her schooling short after marrying her first husband, Charles, and focus on being a good mother and homemaker. After making the move to York, she went back to work, initially for the Springettsbury Township Tax Collector for numerous years, then, finishing her career working as the Executive Assistant to the County Commissioner of the County of York, where she retired after 25 years. Throughout her working career she still continued her vocal talents by singing at the Matinee Musical Club, singing for weddings, funerals and other events. She used her painting skills for her family, painting descriptive photos of her many travels to other countries around the world. She would also sew for her family, neighbors and friends, making dresses, costumes and other clothing with just a simple sketch as her template. Her other talents included flower arranging, which she had displayed for her daughter, Cindy's wedding and other events; she helped her family with scrapbooking for her grandchildren; and enjoyed gardening and grew the most beautiful flowers. She also cherished baking Christmas cookies and spending time with her family. Lois was a member of Pleasureville United Methodist Church in York, where she played the organ, sang in the Senior Choir, taught Sunday School and was on the church council. She was also a member of the Royal Tea Club, Republican Women Organization, two separate Red Hat Clubs, the Republican Election Committee where she enjoyed helping at the election polls, and the Matinee Musical Club. Lois is survived by her children, Gregg A. Shive, Wendy Shive Mintun, and Cindy L. Glatfelter and her husband Gary; five grandchildren, Sieara, Kristian, Shannon, Daniel and Sarah; and seven great-grandchildren, Kymani, Willow, Drake, Penelope, Roman, Belle and Barrett. She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; and one daughter-in-law, Vanessa S. Shive. A public visitation will be held on Monday, November 8 from 10:00am until a Celebration of Life Service begins at 11:00am at Pleasureville United Methodist Church, 2606 N Sherman St, York, PA 17406.
