Lois Elaine (Gingerich) Wakeland, 88, of York, passed away at UPMC Memorial, York surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Lowell David Wakeland for 64 years. Lois was born December 30, 1933, on the family farm in Seven Valleys, and was the daughter of the late J. Elwood and Goldie A. (Shaffer) Gingerich. She received her bachelor's degree from Shippensburg University and began her teaching career at Red Lion and went on to teach at Spring Grove, West York, Susquehannock, and eventually retired from the Yorktown Business Institute after over 10 years of teaching. She was a life-long, active member of St. Jacob's United Church of Christ, York New Salem, where she sang on the choir for over 30 years and prepared many meals with the women's guild. She also was member of the Red Hat Society and was a life member of the West York VFW post 8951. In addition to her husband Dave, Lois is survived by her three sons, Douglas Wakeland and his wife Janet of Lacombe, LA; Scott Wakeland of Brunswick, GA, and Bryan Wakeland of West York; and five grandchildren, Kristin, Gregory, Thomas, Jackson, and Maxwell. She was preceded in death by her brother William Gingerich. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. A funeral will be held 1:00 PM Saturday April 2, 2022, at St. Jacob's U.C.C., 100 E. George St., York New Salem, with Rev. Susan D'heedene officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
