Leroy Clarence Whitcraft

April 30, 1940 — May 18, 2023

LeRoy C. Whitcraft, 83, of Dallastown, PA passed away peacefully at York Hospital on May 18, 2023. He was the loving husband of Janice L. (Kashner) Whitcraft for 61 years.

LeRoy was born April 30, 1940 on a farm in Springfield Township near Loganville. He was the son of the late Clarence Whitcraft and Susan (Stump) Whitcraft. He and his late sister, Donna Lou (Whitcraft) Markle were lucky to grow up on a farm where they learned to love agriculture. It was a good life! They milked cows, picked tomatoes, and helped their dad butcher. At age 15, he started working at Brown's Orchard pruning trees, and picking peaches and apples. After graduating from Dallastown High School in 1958, he continued working at Brown's. It was there he met Janice in 1959. Every lunchtime, when he would go home, Janice would make sure she was on the porch waiting for a wink and big smile from him as he drove by in his shiny red Ford Fairlane. The rest is history!

LeRoy married Janice on June 4, 1961. He took a position with Dentsply where he worked as a truck driver and pipefitter for 36 years, retiring at age 55. LeRoy was also a member of the Dentsply 25-year Club and the Prince Athletic Association. Everyone enjoyed his kindness and sense of humor.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling, going to Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska. They enjoyed many getaways to their Mifflin County cabin with family and friends, enjoying deer hunting, fishing and campfires at night. They also enjoyed hosting family and friends, going crabbing, and fishing together at their vacation home in Delaware.

LeRoy has been a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church (Hametown). He loved his church and many friends and served on the Church Council and Property Committee.

His hobbies included vegetable gardening, growing beautiful roses, and most of all spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing the card game 500 and listening to Blue Grass and Country Music.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Janice are three children: Kathy Yaraghi and husband Amir, James Whitcraft and wife Debra, David Whitcraft and wife Kelly; ten grandchildren: Jonathan Whitcraft (Melysa), Alexander Yaraghi (Savannah), Matthew Whitcraft, Nicholas Yaraghi, Amy Whitcraft, Jennifer Yaraghi, Benjamin Whitcraft, Alice Svalbonas, Megan and Christy Whitcraft; and two great grandchildren Ellis and Esme Whitcraft.
