Kathryn I. Stabler Glen Rock Kathryn I. Stabler, 96, of the Haven at Springwood, who was formerly of Glen Rock, died Thursday April 2, 2015 at Rest Haven-York. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday April 8, 2015 at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery, Shrewsbury, with Military Rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.. Following the burial, a memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM, Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 47 Hanover Street, Glen Rock with her pastor the Rev. Ed Robbins, officiating. Miss Stabler was born on August 18, 1918 in Shrewsbury Township, a daughter of the late Clovies J. and Lillie M. (Brodbeck) Stabler. She graduated in 1937 from Glen Rock High School and she was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Women’s Army Corp from 1943 to 1945. She retired in 1981 from the former Glen Rock State Bank, where she had been employed as a Teller/Bookkeeper for over 17 years. Kathryn was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Rock, where she was a member of the Choir, taught Sunday School, served on the church council and the Archives Committee. She was a Life member of the Austin L. Grove American Legion Post #403. Glen Rock where she was a Past Commander, served as the Chairperson of the Building Committee, was an Adjunct Chaplin and Finance Officer. She also served as an Assistant Troop Leader with Girl Scout Troop 36 in Glen Rock and was a charter member of the Women’s Memorial in Washington DC. Active in her church, the legion and other community organizations, She was a volunteer Librarian and served on the Library Board for 11 years and had received the Glen Rock Jaycee’s Distinguished Service Award in 1996, the Post #403 Good Citizenship Award in 1999 and the Troop 36 Scouting Award. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret E. Stabler and A. Emma Heinecke, both of Glen Rock, nieces, Frederica A. Mundis of Glen Rock and Brenda E. Miller of York; a great niece, Michelle Mundis and great nephews, Ryan Mundis, Christiaan Miller, Jonathan Miller, and Benjamin Miller. She was predeceased by her brother Jared C. “Bud” Stabler. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, (memo Organ Restoration Fund) 47 Hanover Street, Glen Rock, PA 17327 or to the Women's Memorial Foundation, (Women’s In Military Service Memorial), Dept. 560, Washington DC 20042-0560.
