John W. Gutmann

John W. Gutmann, 91, of Warsaw, VA and formerly of Baltimore MD, passed away at his home, with his family by his side Thursday, February 3, 2022. He was the loving husband of 66 years to Mary (Davenport) Gutmann. John was born on October 31, 1930, in Baltimore, Maryland, and was the son of the late John Elias and Velma (Snyder) Gutmann. Mr. Gutmann served his country in the United States Air Force, deployed to Korea during the Korean conflict. Soon after returning to the United States, he met his future wife, Mary Louise. John worked as a Master Electrician for Baltimore Gas and Electric Company for many years prior to his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed tending his home orchard and woodworking, making many pieces of furniture and clocks. John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting trips and fishing. John also raised and showed rabbits for many years, working closely with his children in 4-H. Mr. Gutmann was a Master Mason and held memberships in Virginia and the Howard County Masonic Lodge No. 101 of Elkridge, Maryland. In addition to his wife Mary, John is survived by his two sons, Matthew Gutmann (Kathy) of Warsaw, VA, Jeffrey Gutmann (Arlene) of Rodanthe, NC; six grandchildren, Melissa (Scott), Amy (Drew), Jacob, April, Hunter, and Rachel; and two great granddaughters, Hannah and Abigail. He was preceded in death by his son John W. Gutmann Jr. and his sister Doris Kummerlowe. A viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, PA at until the funeral service begins at 1:00 p.m.. Interment will follow at St. Jacob’s (Stone) Church Cemetery, Glenville and military rites will be given by the York County Veteran Honor Guard.
