On Monday, September 6, 2021, John S. Simmons, Sr., 57, of New Freedom, passed away at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Patricia A. "Patty" (George) Simmons and Charlene (Ambrose) Simmons. John was born on April 17, 1964 in Baltimore, MD to the late Elsie "Gert" (Whippert) and James Simmons, Sr. After Graduating from Southwestern High School in 1982, John followed his passion in the construction industry, ending his career as a Superintendent for Consolidated Medical Services, Inc., in Cockeysville, MD. John was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, and the New Freedom VFW Auxiliary. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and going to Biker's Week in Gettysburg every year. He liked going fishing, smoking meat, watching FOX News and the History Channel, and playing his mandolin. He was also an avid Ravens, Orioles, Terps and Penn State fan. John is survived by his wife Charlene; three sons, John "Scott" Simmons, Jr. and his wife, Taelor, Brian Simmons and his wife Elisabeth, and Richard "Jeremiah" Simmons; three step-daughters; four siblings, Jim Simmons, Jr., Deb Toler, Tim Simmons and Mark Simmons; and 11 grandchildren. Public Viewings will be held on Thursday, September 9, from 6-8PM, and Friday, September 10, from 6-8PM at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 11, at 10AM. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 N. Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403.
