John M. Shaver, Sr.

On Friday, February 7, 2025, John took his last ride on his Harley Davidson motorcycle to heaven. Born June 09, 1943 in York Penna. to the late John and Julia (Schaefer) Shaver of Freeland, Maryland.

John graduated from Hereford High School in 1961. The next day after graduation he joined the Navy. He was stationed in Boston, Massachusetts as a medical corpsman. In 1964 he attended Johns Hopkins school of radiology and graduated in the top 10 of his class in 1966. After graduation he worked for Baltimore City hospital, Francis Scott Key hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview till his retirement in 2007. He also worked for Saint Joseph hospital in Maryland for over twenty years.

A devoted family man, he was married to Joan M. (Gabel) Shaver for 59 years. The love of his life were his children, Jean Shaver and John Michael Shaver, Jr. His grandchildren, Julianna, Andrew and Madelyn. He loved animals and brought many animals home. Besides many dogs and cats, he had a ferret.

He rode his Harley Davidson motorcycle every chance he got. He traveled to Florida, Louisiana, Maine, Ohio, South Dakota, California and everywhere in between. He belonged to Baltimore Ramblers Club and American Legion.

He leaves behind his wife Joan M. (Gabel) Shaver, his children Jean Shaver and John Michael Shaver, Jr. (Deena), his grandchildren, Julianna, Andrew, and Madelyn . His brother James A. (Vanessa) Shaver plus nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Allen Shaver.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00am in New Freedom Cemetery. Deacon Fred Horn will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are recommended to Animal Rescue, 2 Heritage Farm Dr., New Freedom, PA 17349 or to the SPCA of York, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406.
