John L. Franklin

John L. Franklin, Sr., 84, of GLEN ROCK died Monday May 28, 2018 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Virginia M. (Blades) Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1st at Peter’s Church, 1708 Seitzville Road, Seven Valleys, with Pastor Thomas Beck officiating. Viewings will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church and from 10:00 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Private burial with military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Glen Rock. Mr. Franklin was born February 6, 1934 in Baltimore and was a son of the late Richard J. and Virginia M. (Steffey) Franklin. Mr. Franklin was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army. He retired as a sheet metal worker at National Sheet Metal in Cockeysville MD and had also been with the International Sheet Metal Union in Washington DC area. He also was a waterman for all his life having founded the Corner Crab House in Baltimore, Md. and had owned and operated the former Mallard Glen Restaurant in Glen Rock. He had also been a Troop Leader with Boy Scout Troop 991 in Baltimore and had served as a Youth Leader and a Deacon with the Northeast Baptist Church in Baltimore for many years. John leaves two daughters, Karen Franklin Higgins (Jerry) of Glen Rock and Kim Franklin Lipscomb (David) of Pylesville, Md.; four grandchildren, Trisha, Tracey, Jerry and Joshua; eleven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kendra, Rylee, Noah, Mariah, Bella, Aria, Rebekah, Willa and Gracie; a sister, Judy McCumber of Baltimore. He was preceded in death by a son, John L.
