John E. Stengle, 85, of Hanover, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at York Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Patsy R. (Renoll) Stengle and the late Mary Jane (Bankert) Stengle. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday April 26, 2017 at Hanover First Church of God, 600 Fairview Drive, Hanover, with Pastor Jerry Shoap and Pastor Dan Thomas, officiating, with a time of fellowship and luncheon being held following the service. Viewings will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the church. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Greenmount United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4242 Greenmount Church Road, Glen Rock. Mr. Stengle was born in Codorus Township, the son of the late Edwin L. and Leah C. (Sterner) Stengle. He retired from the Seven Valley Garment Company where he was employed for nine years and prior to that had worked as a platter and at various other jobs with AMP, Inc. for over 37 years. He was a member of the Hanover First Church of God, where he served as a head usher for 11 years. He also was a member of the Jefferson Sportsman’s Association and Life Member of the Jefferson Fire Company where he served as a fire policeman for over 30 years. He enjoyed attending auctions and public sales and had been interviewed by the Hanover Sun Newspaper for his faithful listening to and participating in the “Yard Sale” radio show on WHVR. John leaves two daughters, Jeanette M. Starner and her husband, Jeff of Manchester, Pa and Joan E. Reichart and her husband, Carl of Hanover; two step daughters, Faye E. Small and her husband, Ronald of Hanover and Jane E. Casale and her husband Brian of Hanover, four grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren and another one on the way. He was predeceased by seven sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenmount Cemetery Association, 4242 Greenmount Church Road, Glen Rock, PA 17327.
