James E. Hemminger, 89, of Glen Rock, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022. He was the loving husband of Hester A. (Shockey) Hemminger for 65 years.
Jim was born on February 7, 1933, in Boswell, PA to the late Samuel and Annie (Speigle) Hemminger. He graduated from Boswell High School, served his country in the US Army as a surveyor in Southeast Asia, and then attended Williamsport Trade School to become a tool and die maker. Jim was self-employed, and owned Trail Tool, Inc. for 37 years until he retired. Prior to that he worked for Crescent Industries in New Freedom, and Superior Mold in Winterstown. He is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church - Hametown, where he served on the church council for several terms, taught Sunday school, served as church treasurer for many years, and was caretaker of the church. He also served on the Shrewsbury Township Zoning Hearing Board for 32 years; the Board of the Barbara J. Eagan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center / Strasburg Haus in Shrewsbury; and the board of Directors of the former Glen Rock State Bank from the late 1970's until the merger with Community Banks.
Jim is survived by his wife, Hester; three daughters, Karen H. Simpson, Joyce A. Vafeas, and Jean E. Conroy; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Hazel Fluke, Reita Yoder, and Richard Hemminger.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, November 25, from 7 PM to 9 PM at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 26 at St. Paul Lutheran Church - Hametown, 11894 Susquehanna Trail S, Glen Rock. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Katie R. Brantner will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N, York, PA 17406 or to St. Paul Lutheran Church - Hametown, 11894 Susquehanna Trail S., Glen Rock, PA 17327.
