Jack S. Bortner York Jack S. Bortner, 83, of York, died Tuesday October 25, 2016 at his home. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday October 29, 2016 at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 to 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Steltz Church Cemetery, Glen Rock, with military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Bortner was born on September 7, 1933 in Glen Rock and was a son of the late Claude O. and Bessie B. (Black) Bortner. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and retired as a truck driver from AMP, Inc. in 1998 following 33 years of employment. Jack was a member of the Austin L. Grove American Legion Post #403 and served as an Assistant Chief of the Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Fire Company in the 1996’s. He enjoyed playing Bingo and going to Werhly's Auction, Morningstar Market and attended many local fire company feeds. He leaves a son Danny J. Kerr and friend Marisa Ferguson of Placida, FL; a daughter Lisa M. Hammond and her husband William of Dallastown; four grandchildren, Jessica Hagens and husband Gregory, Dustin Kerr and wife Kimberly, Victoria Slaugh and husband James and Wyatt Hammond; five great grandchildren, Ava, Savannah, Camden, Eli and Kayla; a brother Robert Bortner of Mifflinburg. He was predeceased by two brothers Stewart Bortner and Claudius “Reds” Bortner and three sisters Blanche Lackey, Caroline Gaffney, Claudine Krebs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Austin L. Grove American Legion Post #403, 4035 Manchester St, Glen Rock, PA 17327. Condolences may be shared at geiple.com.
