Irene Grether

March 13, 1953 — February 24, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irene Patricia Grether "Pat", a cherished and beloved wife, mother, nana, aunt, and friend. Born on March 13, 1953, she left us peacefully on February 24th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Her life was a testament to love, strength, courage and unwavering devotion to those she held dear, and she will be missed more than mere words can possibly say.

Pat was born in Glasgow, Scotland to John Pirrett Armour and Mary Violet (Strainger) Armour. From a young age, she exhibited a remarkable sense of compassion and a drive to excel in everything she did. She was the youngest child who took on the role of a caregiver with grace and dedication.

Pat met the love of her life and soulmate, Glenn Alan Grether, in Scotland while he was in the Navy, and they were married in August 1979. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three daughters, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, hard work, and integrity.

Her children, Patricia, Violet and Natasha, and her sons-in-law Lee and Jason were the center of her universe. She was a devoted mother who gave all she had, supported her daughters in all their endeavors, and celebrated their achievements with pride. Her joy only grew with the arrival of her beloved eight grandchildren, John, Andrew, Mackenzie, Zachary, Madelyn, Mik, Owen, and Scarlett, whom she adored and cherished more than life. She was also the center of her grandchildren's lives, showing up for all the sports, theater, music, and milestone events in their lives as their biggest cheerleader. She was also an extremely devoted Aunt to Reggie & Maggie, Poppy, Helen, and Elizabeth whom she loved with all her heart... "more than a wee bit".

Pat enjoyed the special times spent with her loving husband Glenn, daughters, numerous grandchildren and her beloved dogs, which brought her immense joy and fulfillment. Whether it was tending to her beautiful ornate garden, cooking delicious meals for her family, spoiling her grandchildren, or donating her time to the Chow Rescue, she found happiness in the simple pleasures of life.

Pat's legacy is one of love, compassion, forgiveness, hard work, strength and resilience. She taught us the importance of family, the power of kindness, and the beauty of a life lived with purpose. Her spirit will continue to inspire us, and her memory will forever be etched into our hearts.

As we bid farewell to Irene Patricia Grether, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with those who have gone before her, her beloved mother Mary Violet and father John Pirett, her brother Reginald Hall, David and Ina Strainger, her Aunty Isa and Uncle Johnny, and her Uncle Cecil Strainger. Her love and light will continue to guide us, and we are eternally grateful for the precious time we had with her. Rest in peace, dear Pat. You will be missed more than words can express, but your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you, Always.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held on March 23rd. Close family and friends will be contacted with details about the Celebration of Life event, so we may come together to honor her memories and share cherished stories of her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cancer Society in her name.
