Harry H. Hoke, Jr. York New Salem Harry H. Hoke, Jr., 83, of York News Salem, died Thursday August 27, 2015 at Manor Care South. He was the husband of Lois V. (Hoffman) Hoke, with whom he would have celebrated a 54th Wedding Anniversary this October 28th. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, 100 East George Street, York New Salem, with his pastor the Rev. Rick Stuempfle, officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Jacob’s Union Cemetery, York New Salem with flag folding and taps by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Hoke was born on February 29, 1932 in York, a son of the late Harry H. Sr. and Marguerite L. (Ebersole) Hoke. He graduated from William Penn High School, York in the Class of 1950 and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in Germany. Harry was employed as a mechanic with Schaad Detective Agency, York from 1987 until his retirement in 1997 and prior to that he was a hydraulic mechanic at Pittman, York and was a Lineman with the former GTE Phone Company. He was a member of St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, where he was a past Sunday School Superintendent and was an active member of York New Salem Lions Club, where he had served as a Past President, Tail Twister and Song Leader. He also was a member of the Hawk Gunning Club, York and a member of the Brothers of the Brush during the York New Salem Centennial in 1976. Besides his wife, he also leaves a James E. Hoke and his wife Rebecca of Mt. Wolf; 2 Grandchildren, Colton James Hoke and Amanda Paige Hoke, and two sisters, Janice Hall of Hope Mills, N.C. and Fayetta Thieret of York. The family request no flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 111, York New Salem PA 17371 or to the York New Salem Lion’s Club, 5030 Lehman Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362.
