Francis G. Shive

Francis G. Shive Spring Grove Francis G. Shive, 83, of Spring Grove, who was formerly of Seven Valleys, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Janet E. (Wendt) Shive and the companion of Delores Leppo. Mr. Shive was born in York on January 11, 1932 and was a son of the late Martin L. and Effie I. (Rohrbaugh) Shive. He was employed as a Potato Buyer for several snack companies, traveling around the US purchasing potatoes for them, including EL-GE Potato Chips Company for over 20 years. He had also farmed for many years in the Springfield Township area. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Seven Valleys and the Viking A.A. Club in York. He had played Triple “AAA” Baseball for several years and had raced cars at the former Bowling Green Speedway in Codorus Township. Francis also leaves, two daughters, Sandra L. Lasater of York, Donna J. Striewig of Thomasville; a son Dennis E. Shive of Seven Valleys; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Leona Weister and Nancy Lee, both of Summerfield FL; Darlene Myers of Glen Rock, Lois Rittenhouse of York; and a brother Leroy Shive of Spring Grove. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy A. Shive. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. Peter’s Church, 1708 Seitzville Road, Seven Valleys, with Pastor Thomas Beck and Pastor Kerry Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church, (mark for Mission Fund) 1708 Seitzville Road, Seven Valleys, Pa 17362 or to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403.
