Fern Minnich Ness

Fern M. (Fahnestock) Ness, 91, of York Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 19 at Senior Commons at Powder Mill. She was the loving wife of Jacob C. Ness for almost 47 years before his passing in 2001. Born August 8, 1930 in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Susan (Minnich) Fahnestock of Lititz, PA. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked as a cook at Dallastown Middle School Cafeteria for 28 years before retiring in 2000. She was a long time member of Shrewsbury Dunkard Brethren Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and minister's wife. She enjoyed baking, growing flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Everyone enjoyed her fun-loving sense of humor. She is survived by two children, a daughter, Sharon Lehigh, and her husband Robert of Spring Grove, PA; a son, Duane Ness, and his wife Tina, of York, PA. Five grandchildren: Adam Lehigh and his wife Melanie, Christina Lehigh, Alisha Lehigh, Chloe Ness, Maxwell Ness and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd M. Fahnestock and a sister Leota Fahnestock. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, January 24 at Shrewsbury Dunkard Brethren Church, 216 N Main St, Shrewsbury, PA 17361. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Ministers Ray Stuber, Adam Lehigh, and Merle Sweitzer will officiate.
