Eugene "Buddy" Goodling

On Monday, May 27, 2024, Eugene "Buddy" Goodling, 88, of Spring Grove, passed away at Country Meadows of York - West. He was the loving husband to Doris (Markle) Goodling for 69 years.

Buddy was born on March 28, 1936 in North Codorus Township to the late Phillip and Helen (Beck) Goodling. He retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after 36 faithful years of employment. Buddy was a member of the White Rose Motorcycle Club; York County Racing Club; and the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing. He was a champion race car driver, competing in races at Bowling Green Speedway in Glen Rock; Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown; Susquehanna Speedway in York Haven; and Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg. In 1964 he was the track champion at Lincoln, Susquehanna and Williams Grove. In his spare time, he enjoyed motorcycle riding, camping, hunting, fishing, playing volleyball, going on cruises, doing yard work, and staying organized.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; two sons, Michael Goodling and wife Judy, and Bryan Goodling; two siblings, Luann Hoffman and husband Larry, and Bob Goodling and wife Pat; one sister-in-law, Linda Goodling; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Stephen Goodling; and one brother, Barry Goodling.

Public Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, from 9:00 am until a memorial service begins at 11:00am at Salem Christian Church, 24 Franklin St., Jacobus, PA 17407. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are recommended to Salem Christian Church at the address above OR the York County Racing Club, 568 Yale St., York, PA 17403.

**The family would like to give special thanks to the workers at Country Meadows of York-West and LifeSong Hospice for the outstanding care they gave to Buddy during his final days. Their efforts did not go unnoticed.
