Elwood W. "Woody" Sechrist, 101, of Glen Rock, was called home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2023. He was the husband of the late Lois (McCullough) Sechrist, who passed away on July 2, 2014.
A public viewing will be held from 11:00am until a funeral service begins at 12:00pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Glenview Alliance Church, 10037 Susquehanna Trail South, Glen Rock. Interment will follow in Joseph Giesey Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Pastor Jim Herbert will officiate.
Woody, as he liked to be called, was born on November 20, 1921, in Shrewsbury Township to the late Charles and Minerva (Jones) Sechrist. Woody is a Marine Corps Veteran of WWII. He was a tail gunner on a B-25 Mitchell Bomber. He taught dancing for Arthur Murray Studios in Tucson, AZ, Allentown, Harrisburg, Altoona and a private studio in York. He was a distributor for Niagra and American Therapy Companies for forty five years. He was a private pilot and loved flying, hunting, boating and dancing. Woody was a member of Glenview Alliance Church, the Glen Rock American Legion, New Freedom VFW, the Hanover Marine Corps League, the Hanover Elks Club and the NRA.
He leaves behind, his daughter Iris Graybill and husband John; two grandchildren, Anna Welker and husband Lt. Colonel Jay Welker, and Andrew Graybill and wife Karen; five great-grandchildren; and three step-children, Donna Mae Wilkes, Frances Peterson, and Donald Legg.
