Elmer W. Shearer, 87, of Spring Grove, passed away Monday October 4, 2021, at ManorCare South. He was the loving husband of Ethelyn M. "Essie" (Laughman) Shearer, whom he celebrated a 67th wedding anniversary on the 27th of February. Elmer was born on July 29, 1934, in Spring Grove, and was a son of the late Luke E. and Mabel A. (Bechtel) Shearer. He graduated in 1952, as the first graduating class at Susquehannock High School. Elmer worked as an equipment operator for Conewago Enterprise, Hanover for over 40 years, fully retiring at the age of 80. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Codorus and a life member of the Jefferson Fire Company. He was an avid sprint car and NASCAR fan for many years and was once part of a pit crew at the Bowling Green Speedway and enjoyed taking his grandchildren to sprint car races. He was known to his grandchildren as Pop Pop. Elmer's family was very important to him, and some of the greatest memories were made on their annual family trip to Ocean City, MD and during their weekly family game nights together. In addition to his beloved wife Essie, Elmer is survived by a son, Stephen D. Shearer (Patricia) of Manchester, PA; his daughters, Donna M. Shearer of Glenville, Debra L. Miller (Frank) of New Freedom, Barbara S. Lengel (Randy) of Schuylkill Haven, PA, Beverly J. Altland (Jerry) Hanover, and Christine A. Dubs (Tony) of Spring Grove; his grandchildren, Matthew Miller (Melissa), Zachariah Dubs (Leah), Siona Waugh (Alex), Thomas Lengel, and Erin Dick (Charlie); his great grandchildren, Victoria, Blake, Kalysta Dick; and his sister Mary N. Bruno; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Louise J. Krebs. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 8th from 10:00AM until the memorial service begins at 11:00AM at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 47 Hanover, St. Codorus, PA. with Pastor Tim Parker officiating.
