Elenora Duerr

Elenora "Elie" Hicks Duerr passed away after a long illness on December 7, 2023 at the age of 86, at Misericordia Nursing Home in York, Pennsylvania. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert Duerr, until his passing in 2015. She was born in Hillsville, VA to Walter and Lola Worrell Hicks. When her mother remarried, she became the daughter of George M. Shue.

Elie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Elie is lovingly referred to as "Sissy"by her family, and is survived by her daughter, Kimberly S. Duerr, her son, Brad A. Duerr, her grandson Ethan Martin, her sister Linda S. Yakacki, niece Karin M. Davies, nephew Christopher M. Yakacki, and many other nieces and nephews on the Duerr/Wagner side.

Elie was in the first graduating class of Susquehannock High School and went to nursing school at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. Her first position was as a pediatric nurse in San Diego, CA. When she returned to Glen Rock, she worked at both York and Memorial Hospitals. She pursued her education in nursing and got her BSN at Millersville University. Later she became the director of nurses at the York County Home.

Elie was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching sports on TV and had a special place in her heart for football and NASCAR racing.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, December 15 from 10:00am until a funeral service begins at 11:00am at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Pastor Patti Bream will officiate.
