Earl W. Thoman Glen Rock Earl W. Thoman, 93, of Glen Rock, went to be with his heavenly Father on Monday November 18, 2013 at his home. He was the loving husband of Evelyn M. (Markle) Thoman, with whom he celebrated a 71st wedding anniversary this past September 5th. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Greenmount United Methodist Church, 4242 Greenmount Church Road, Glen Rock, with his pastor the Rev. Martin Bovee, officiating, assisted by Rev. Wayne A. Shamer. Viewings will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the Hanover Allied Veterans Council. Earl was born on July 3, 1920 in Codorus Township, a son of the late John A. and Ellen L. (Miller) Thoman. He attended Shaffer’s and Sterner’s Schools in Codorus Township and was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving in World War II, with the 104th Infantry Division Timber Wolves. He loved nature and farmed for over 40 years in Codorus Township retiring in 1985. He had also worked for Consolidated Freightways in York for 9 years. He was a life long member of Greenmount United Methodist Church, where he had served on the Church Council and was a former Trustee of the Church. During one of his tenures as a Trustee he was instrumental in building the addition to the Church. Earl was one of the charter members of the Triangle Hunting Club in Lycoming County and was a former member of the Jefferson Sportsman’s Club and the Jefferson Centennial Brothers of the Brush, was a member of the Austin L. Grove American Legion Post #403 and the Jefferson Fire Company. He was also a founder of the Nail Keggers Group that met on Wednesday mornings. He was an avid hunter, a diehard Baltimore Orioles fan and enjoyed watching Penn State Football. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Steven D. Thoman and wife Cherie of McLean VA; three daughters, Joyce E. Markel and husband Stuart of York, Linda K. Wildasin and husband Jerry of Glenville and Gale S. Thoman of York; a daughter in law, Roberta G. Thoman of Glen Rock; 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth R. Thoman and Richard A. Thoman both of York. He was preceded in death by a son, Terrance L. “Terry” Thoman, a grandson, Kevin Eugene Markel, a sister Iva K. (Thoman) Glatfelter Shaffer, brothers, Robert E., Victor A. and Raymond L. Thoman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are to be made to Greenmount United Methodist Church, 4242 Greenmount Church Road Glen Rock, PA 17327.
