Dr. Morton Kousen, 77, of York died August 13, 2015 at Hospice and Community Care of Mount Joy. He was the husband of Bonnie (Levitov) Kousen, to whom he was married for 55 years. Dr. Kousen was born on August 2, 1938 in Washington D.C., a son of the late Phillip Kousen and Jean (Hackel) Kousen. He received an A.A. and B.S. (Pharmacy) from George Washington University, a M.S. (Physiology) from the University of Illinois, and a M.D. from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. Mort completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at York Hospital and practiced in York until he retired 10 years ago. Dr. Kousen served 9 years in the Air Force. Positions included Squadron Commander of USAF Hospital, Pharmacy Officer, and Aerospace Physiologist. In the Air Force he began a lifelong love with Obstetrics and left the service to attend medical school. It is estimated that he participated in approximately 4000 deliveries at York Hospital during his career. Mort’s activities included cross-country skiing, sailing, tennis, and he became an avid photographer following retirement. His photos won awards at Photography clubs in York and Phoenix. One of his BW Photos won Grand Champion at the York Fair. Other photographs sold at charity silent auctions and at Studio 234. In addition to his wife, Bonnie, he is survived by his two sons Kenneth Arthur Kousen and his wife Ginger of Marlboro, CT and Steven Bruce Kousen and his wife Michelle of Dunn Loring, VA; a daughter Cheryl Lisa Doll of Philadelphia, PA; as well as five grandchildren and a brother Alan Charles Kousen of MA. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law Jeffrey Doll. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Temple Beth Israel, 2090 Hollywood Drive, York, with Rabbi Jeffrey Astrachan, officiating. Burial will be in South Hill Hebrew Cemetery. There will be no viewing. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock is in charge of the arrangements.
