Douglas Mathew Bartell

On Monday, April 10, 2023, Douglas M. Bartell, 70, passed away suddenly at home in New Freedom. He was the devoted husband to Susan (Sotdorus) Bartell for 38 years. He was born on May 3, 1952 in Baltimore, MD to Herbert and the late Betty (Hetrick) Bartell. Doug graduated from Woodlawn High School in Maryland where he played baseball and basketball. He then led a dedicated career in several various roles for the phone company, beginning with them when they were C&P, then Bell Atlantic, to what is now Verizon. He retired in 2010 after 37 years of dedicated service. In his younger years, Doug enjoyed traveling, skiing and also enjoyed watching and coaching his son, Nicholas, in little league baseball and soccer. He still enjoyed golfing, and he would meet "the golf crew" at least once a week in the summer to play. Doug enjoyed going on walks, watching and attending the Orioles and Ravens games, Ocean City trips with old friends to watch playoff sporting events, and getting together with his high school friends. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his grandson, Chase.

Doug is survived by his wife, Sue; his father, Herbert; one son, Nick Bartell and his wife Nicki; one grandson, Chase; four siblings, Debbie Stiegler and husband Denny, David Bartell and wife Sandy, Denise Hossler and husband Keith, and Dennis Bartell and wife Kim; one brother-in-law Skip Zickmund; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty; and one brother, Dean Bartell.

A public gathering will be held on Thursday, April 13 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, April 14 at 10:00am. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
