SHREWSBURY Doris L. (Heindel) Shaffer, 80, died of natural causes Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at her home. She was the wife of the late Harold E. “Shaf” Shaffer. Funeral services will be held 11 am, Monday, December 10, 2018 at Mason Dixon Baptist Church, 713 Campbell Road, New Freedom, with the Rev. Terry Felton, officiating. Burial will be in Bowser's Church Cemetery. Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 pm Sunday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, and from 10 to 11 am Monday at the church. Mrs. Shaffer was born on December 31, 1937, in New Freedom, a daughter of the late Mary S. (Walker) and Earl E. Heindel Sr. She was a 1956 graduate of Susquehannock High School, and assisted her husband with their business, the former Shaffer Sales and Service in Shrewsbury for many years. Prior to that, she had worked at the former Anstine’s Manufacturing Sewing Co. in Railroad. Doris was an active lifetime member of the Shrewsbury Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and had helped with the fire company’s annual carnival for many years. She was a member of Mason Dixon Baptist Church, New Freedom where she helped with vacation bible school. She was a member of the Shrewsbury Church of the Brethren, until the church closed in 2005, where she was a custodian for 25 years and taught Sunday School. Doris was an avid gardener and participated in the annual Shrewsbury Flower Show for many years. She also held membership in the Brethren Home Foundation, the Founders Club and the Heritage Club and Auxiliary at the Brethren Home Community at Cross Keys. She leaves a brother, Earl E. Heindel Jr. of New Freedom; a niece, April A. Groft (Dan) of Pottstown; two nephews, Todd A. Dise of Red Lion and Dr. Kirk R. Dise (Tammy) of Lancaster; and five great nieces and nephews, Mackenzie Dise, Nicole Dise, Ezra Groft, Kevin Dise (Lindsey), and Kyle Dise; and a great great grandniece, Ivory Rose Dise.
